DECHEMA - Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology- is a non-profit scientific and technical society based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It has more than 5,500 private and institutional members -among which 500 SMEs-, whose activities cover areas relevant to the process industries.DECHEMA is dedicated to the support of R&D progress and implementation in various fields of chemical engineering, including reaction engineering, catalysis, materials and process efficiency.  

DECHEMA is a board member of the Sustainable Chemistry European Technology Platform (SusChem). DECHEMA hosts several secretariats of organizations in chemical engineering: European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) and its international equivalent (WCEC), the European Federation on Corrosion (EFC) and the German Catalysis Society (GECATS). DECHEMA is an active member of several European and national organizations, e.g. the European Federation of Catalysis Societies (EFCATS), its international equivalent (IACS) and the European Water Partnership (EWP).

ACHEMA is organized by DECHEMA: it is the world leading forum for process industry and the international trend-setting summit for Chemical Technology, Environmental Protection and Biotechnology. DECHEMA’s activities are carried out by 190 employees.

CEFIC - European Chemical Industry Council, Belgium

CEFIC  is the Brussels-based organization representing the European chemical industry. CEFIC represents, directly or indirectly, about 29,000 large, medium and small chemical companies which employ about 1.3 million people and account for nearly a third of the world chemical production. CEFIC was incorporated in 1972 as an international association with scientific objectives.  

CEFIC addresses key issues of global importance, such as: Competitiveness, Research & Innovation, High Level Group on Chemicals, EU Chemicals Policy, International Trade, Climate change & Energy, etc. CEFIC membership includes:

TNO works for governments, the SME sector, large companies, service providers and non-governmental organisations.  

Unit involved in ChemWater:

TNO’s department for Water Treatment Technology is part of ChemWater. The department develops built environment and geosciences innovative water treatment technologies. Water treatment technologies are developed in cooperation with end users and technology suppliers. Consultancy in Industrial Water Management and water treatment is also offered by TNO.

 

TNO is a board member of the EU Water Supply and Sanitation Technology Platform (WSSTP) and is secretary of its Pilot Advisory group on ‘Sustainable Waster use in Industry’.

Unit involved in ChemWater:

Within the department of Industrial Innovation, the “Separation and Conversion technology” business unit addresses the following research topics :

- Process intensification

- Valorization of rest streams (including biomass)

- Water and energy

- Sustainability evaluation.

The unit’s strategic research programme is built around sustainable chemistry, addressing current and future industrial needs. The unit has specific experience and an international reputation in the field of membrane technology, ranging from membrane development (ceramic and polymeric) to process design & control and application studies.

UCM is a state university founded in 1499. It is the largest university in Spain with around 89,000 students.

 

Group involved in ChemWater:

The CPR group (CPRG) is part of the Chemical Engineering Department - Chemistry Faculty. It focuses on paper technology and water treatment technologies in industrial processes. Fifteen researchers (6 Professors, 5 senior researchers, 4 junior researchers) work in the group, both on fundamental and applied research. The fundamental research activities are devoted to the acquisition of new knowledge and the deep fundamental understanding of the phenomena taking place during production processes or in the operations involved in the treatment of industrial waters. The applied research activities of the group deal with using new knowledge to improve process efficiency and favour process developments.
CPRG has relevant experience in paper process optimisation, sustainable production (process yield, water saving, water treatments and energy saving), quality control as well as in education and training. The group carried out various activities for knowledge transfer between different industrial sectors - paper industry, water utilities, chemical, textile and steel sectors. CPRG is closely involved in the European Forestry Technology Platform, in the European Fibre and Paper Research Organisations-EFPRO and in the European Water Partnership-EWP. It collaborates with the EWP in the areas of sustainable water use, sustainable indicators, water footprint, and water and energy.

ERIC assists companies in the development of catalysts, from the discovery of new catalysts formulation to the optimization and scale-up. All members of ERIC have strong and consolidated experience in the development of industrial catalysts and catalytic processes, from refinery and clean energy, to fine chemistry and environment protection.

ENMIX, European Nanoporous Materials Institute of Excellence, Belgium

ENMIX is a platform for research and advice in synthesis of porous materials, sorbents, membranes and catalysis. ENMIX arose from the INSIDE PORES Network of Excellence - Insitu Study and Development of Nanoporous Materials. ENMIX has 12 research groups as core members. Group participating in ChemWater:

Anjou Recherche, which is Veolia Environnement’s water research center. It was created as an Economic Interest Group, in 1983 in France. Anjou Recherche’s 215 employees develops tools to prevent and control water resource pollution, as well as to assist decision making for the efficient management for the entire water cycle. Anjou Recherche also develops innovative technologies for the treatment of drinking water, municipal and industrial waste water.

Anjou Recherche participates in several EC projects. Its researchers are members of the following associations: American Water Works Association, European Membrane Society, International Water Association, North American Membrane Society, International Ozone Association.
