Cross-sectorial approach: Suschem & WssTP working

      hand in hand

SusChem and WssTP initiated ChemWater together, along with EMH, to contribute to the global water challenge. The two platforms have signed a cooperation agreement. This cooperation framework as well as the participation of legal entities representing Networks of Excellence -ERIC and ENMIX- ensures a continuing impact of the project beyond its funding.

SusChem is the European Technology Platform for sustainable chemistry. It aims at boosting chemistry, biotechnology and chemical engineering research, development and innovation in Europe. SusChem was founded by 6 European bodies, among which Cefic and DECHEMA. Cefic is in charge of ChemWater's work package 2, and DECHEMA in charge of work packages 1 and 4.

WssTP is the Water supply and sanitation Technology Platform. It was initiated by the European Commission in 2004 to promote coordination and collaboration in Research and Technology Development in the water industry. WssTP is led by industries in collaboration with academics, research organizations and water users. Suez, Veolia Environnement, Cranfield University, TNO and VITO are all part of WssTP and of ChemWater. TNO is in charge of ChemWater's work package 3 and VITO of work package 5.

ChemWater's Work Plan

Overall management of the project is being taken care of by WP1. Our workplan is then divided in 5 units, corresponding to as many work packages (WP):

Inventory & basis for efficient activities & strategy

WP2: Identification of common and complementary elements and synergy fields of
   ETPs, NoEs and other initiatives.

Sharpening the focus – where to head to & what to address

WP3: 2050 blueprint on materials, processes and technology challenges.

Setting up the way forward in R&D

WP4: Programme of joint implementation activities.

Supporting the way forward

WP5: Development of strategies to encourage marketing of products & services.

Ensure broad dissemination & awareness of the project's challenges, objectives
  & results

   WP6: Dissemination and communication.

Here's the chart detailing the tasks taken care of by each WP:

ChemWater's management structure

An intensive management (work package 1 - WP1) of the project's five other WPs is mandatory for ChemWater's success. Management and coordination are shown in the diagram below.

                                       ChemWater's management structure

Advisory board: It is made up of institutions that are not members of ChemWater. They will be invited to provide input to the WPs: no expertise shall be forgotten!

Steering board: It is made up of both SusChem and WssTP representatives that are part of ChemWater.
